Ceramic Day Course
About this workshop
This beginner-friendly day course welcomes everyone who is curious about working with clay. Using fundamental hand-building techniques like coiling and pinching, you'll shape your own ceramic piece from scratch, guided by one-on-one instruction throughout the session. Once your piece is formed, you can colour it the same day using engobes. Engobe is a liquid clay slip mixed with natural pigments that are applied to the surface before firing to add texture and earthy colour. It's one of the oldest decorating techniques in ceramics, and a beautiful way to give your piece its own character. After the workshop, your piece will be fired twice in the kiln and is ready to take home approximately 2–3 weeks later.
About the host
Loki is a ceramicist and musician based in Amsterdam, working from a philosophical approach to the craft. Loki's practice is guided by the idea of the saunterer: moving slowly and deliberately, observing rather than rushing, letting the work unfold rather than forcing it. In 2023, Loki opened Ceramic Atelier Oost: a bright, quiet studio in Amsterdam Oost where small groups (max 7–8) come together to work with their hands
