Decoden! Japanese Kawaii Crafts

Hey everyone! 🎨

Get ready—this is Amsterdam’s first-ever Decoden workshop!

So… what’s Decoden?
It’s a super cute Japanese art form where you decorate objects with fake whipped cream, sparkly gems, and adorable charms. The name comes from "Decorate DenWa" (old-school for decorating mobile phones). Think phone cases covered in fluffy, fake plastic cream that looks good enough to eat—then topped with charms, jewels, sprinkles, and glitter. ✨

But don’t worry—you’re not stuck with just phone cases. We’ll have 4 different items you can decorate, so you can pick what you actually want to make.

📅 When?
Every second Sunday of the month at 1:30 PM.

⏰ How long?
About 2–3 hours, depending on what you’re decorating.

💰 Price: €35
Includes all equipment, materials, and step-by-step guidance.

You’ll get to choose:

• 16 charms
• 2 cream colors

Pick one of these to decorate:

• Claw hairclip + 2 small hairclips
• Mirror (10x15cm)
• Photo frame (10x15cm)
• 3 toploader photocard holders (€30)
• Mobile phone case*

If you choose the phone case, you’ll need to bring your own polycarbonate case. Silicone cases may not work as the cream won’t stick properly.

🛍️ Want extra charms or creams? You can buy them on the day (cash, Tikkie, or direct bank transfer).

Here’s how the workshop goes down:

We’ll start with a quick intro, then you’ll pick your charms and cream colors. You’ll sketch your design on paper first (trust us, it helps!), then bring it to life. Once you’re done decorating, we’ll box up your masterpiece for you to take home and dry. Drying takes about 2–3 days.

🎧 Expect chill vibes, good music, laughter, and a fun afternoon of crafting with cool people.

What to bring:
A bag or box to carry your artwork home. We’ll provide aprons and gloves, but wear dark or old clothes just in case—the cream can stain.

This is a hands-on workshop. We’ll guide and help you every step of the way, but we won’t decorate it for you. You’re paying for a creative experience with instructions, materials, and tools—but your final piece depends on your own skill and creativity. We can’t take responsibility if you’re not happy with how it turns out. That said, complete beginners are totally welcome!

👧 Kids & families:
Kids are welcome, but we recommend ages 10+ because the workshop takes concentration and fine motor skills. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Just a heads-up: we’re not a childcare service and can’t watch your kids for you.

Q: Is there a minimum age?
A: It’s designed as a parent-child activity. Under 16 must be with an adult. Best for ages 10+—younger kids usually struggle with the fine details and patience needed.

Q: Do I need to bring anything?
A: Just a bag or box to take your creation home. We provide the rest.
