Understanding Plaster Workshop

This class is aimed at beginners. In this 3-hour workshop we explore the basics of working with plaster in relation to ceramics: how plaster behaves, its properties, how to measure and mix it correctly, and how it captures textures and details.

Plaster plays an essential role in ceramics. We will build a basic understanding of how it works and why it is such an interesting material to combine with clay, and explore the idea of positive and negative forms, a key concept in mold making.

Using clay and different textures or objects, each participant creates their own plaster stamp(s). These can later be used to decorate ceramic pieces, or kept as small sculptural objects of their own.
